Review: La Soirée

Following on from the world-renowned La Clique first performed at the Edinburgh Festival in 2004, La Soirée premieres in London at the Southbank Big Top where it is set to inspire, delight and amaze audiences until 31st January 2011.

Featuring some of the best and most well known artists from around the world, including Cabaret Decadanse, Captain Frodo, David O’Mer and The English Gents, La Soirée is an exhilarating, awe-inspiring and above all hilarious variety show.   Their new Southbank home is an upmarket, classy affair, recreating an art nouveau mirror tent and the atmosphere inside, adorned with suitably attired (and spoken) front of house staff, sets the feel-good mood for the evening.  The line-up for each evening is ever changing, with a few surprises for the season to be announced.  Included in this line up, Cabaret Decadanse presenting sassy and hilarious puppet acts, expertly delivered to the funkiest of soundtracks, The English Gents’ mesmerising acrobatic and balance acts wonderfully themed with just a little dry English wit, as well as Miss Behave’s slightly saucy cartoon comedy and sword swallowing.  Furthermore impressive is Captain Frodo’s hilarious, and only slightly gag-inducing, contortion and body manipulation.  Physical comedy from Mooky will ensure the laughs don’t run dry and David O’Mer’s bath-themed aerial ballet is sure to leave the audience ‘damp and breathless’.

An expertly composed variety of acts are delivered here within pure elegance, precision and uplifting spirit.  This outrageous show is not one to be missed this season and they’ve arrived just in time to revamp that boring office Christmas party to something that everyone is defied not to enjoy.

La Soirée runs until 31st January 2011 at the Southbank Big Top (behind the National Theatre).  Book now!
